HD-DVD Player Prices Perilously Plummet
Effective immediately, Toshiba has announced what they call a “strategic reduction” in the pricing of it’s line of HD-DVD players in the US. This is a very important move to try and reinvigorate a media format stagnated by PS3 sales. Just in-time for the summer rush, the public can get their hands on a standalone HD-DVD player that once retailed for $699 for only $399 US. (although before this drop, Toshiba’s HD-A2 player was most-recently priced around $499 online)
Being a happy owner of an HD television, I still could care less about either format. I’m glad the 360 didn’t force one down my throat because as my age increases, I’ve found collecting piles of worthless discs that I rarely watch (or play) increasingly ridiculous. I’m all for a 100% downloadable HD content, $399 can buy one massive freakin’ hard drive.
