Guilty Gear bringing retro goodness with it to Wii.

gear.pngThose familiar with the Guilty Gear series of 2D fighting games know that it’s known more than anything for how fricking insane the gameplay is. It wasn’t too long ago that Guilty Gear Dust Strikers hit the DS (get it? Dust Strikers, on DS? OK, I’m done) to very mixed reviews. It’s one of those games I never got around to picking up and still plan to someday, because it just looks so very weird.

Well now Sega Nerds (not me this time, other Sega nerds) is reporting that Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is coming to the Wii this July in Japan, in addition to a late May PS2 release. They have a YouTube video embedded, if you wish to see it. Looks shiny, even on YouTube. The Wii version will, of course, have motion controls added in. Additionally, there are some MP4 trailers on the official site, here.

Best part of the article is where writer Sharky takes a pot-shot at Smash Bros. and makes it clear he knows what’s coming:

Get ready for some real fighting on the Wii, not just that pansy-ass Smash Bros nonsence..

I wouldn’t call GGX2ac retro, it’s a brand new game. Anyway If this is true than the Wii need some arcade sticks. With the release of SNK games on VC and with this game – Hope it’s not a Japan only release – the Wii turns to be a decent fighting game console.Oh wait, I didn’t read the “Wii version will, of course, have motion controls added in.” the first time. That’s just too bizarre for words, they better have some control options where you can play it a regular controller or I just lost all interest in the Wii version of this game.

Yep, there are to be two sets of controls apparently. I imagine Wii Remote and Nunchuk would be one and then Classic Controller for the other. Still need to get an arcade fighting stick though. MAS Systems looks like the way to go.

In that case, all we need is a release in the west or some type of freeloader disk, I’ve already missed out on the previous installment – Slash – because it was PS2 japan only. Now if we just could see a port of Arcana Heart on the Wii my fighting needs would be satisfied. If it will get ported to a console why not the Wii? Looking at it’s popularity in Japan that could be very well possible.
