Going For The Silver
Last time I visited James we spent the weekend doing some quality gaming. He graciously let me play Crackdown for a while since I had fun playing the demo last time I’d visited, and this time around I figured it was time to start tracking my progress. I also wanted to earn whatever little Achievements I could muster in my brief sessions with the white, green-trimmed, and crimson-ringed console. I’d finally played a game on a 360 that made me want to save what I was doing and come back to it another time, even if it was going to be months later, and even if I couldn’t take my saved games with me on anything but expensive proprietary memory cards. So I set up an Xbox Live Silver account.
I was able to link it into my trusty old Passport account to avoid having to fill in too much information, and I’m sure the marketing arm of Microsoft (are there other arms?) appreciated me linking whatever my old Passport dossier held into their Xbox Live database. They even offered me a free month of Xbox Live Gold service because like any good drug dealer they know that your first hit should always be free.
A couple of months before I bought a PS3 I created a PSN account via a friend’s PS3 to keep my Blast Factor high score to myself, and when I got my own PS3 I made sure to propel my Blast Factor high score pretty much out of reach. (Zing!) Does having an Xbox Live Silver account mean I’ll be picking up an Xbox 360 and going for a Gold account?
I doubt it. I would basically need to give up on every other game system I owned before I could drink the Xbox 360 kool-aid, and I’m pretty sure I’m not close to doing that.
