Gameover: Who’ll Stop The Rain Edition
Welcome to the Gameover, the gaming hangover post. Early each week I’ll give you and me a chance to talk about our gaming weekend. Weekends usually mean free time, which sometimes gets abused, leaving you regretting that long gaming marathon the next day.
Saturday was James and his gamer now-wife’s most excellent wedding, replete with a beautiful ceremony, gorgeous accommodations, a tasty cocktail hour, delicious food, a great DJ, and Karaoke for the win! My family and extended family had a blast. No regrets there.
After that high point I proceeded to come home, rest a bit, then dive headlong into God of War II. I’d made it into the final few levels of the game and when I should have gone to sleep proceeded to try and try and try again in some exceptionally difficult areas. I consulted good old GameFAQs when I should have just gone to bed and tried another day. I managed to drag Kratos to the start of what I think is the final fight of the game, and then dragged myself off to bed at 3am.
Why was that a gaming hangover? Because my two kids don’t stay up until 3am. They (hopefully) get a full night’s sleep and start their day at 6am or so. I’m just glad I don’t work on Sundays.
On Sunday I spent some quality time with Chili Con Carnage and a little bit of time on Puzzle Quest, both on the PSP.
What did you end up playing this weekend? Anyone stay up too late, eat too much junk food, or otherwise stretch yourself out into a gaming hangover?

I mainly played Halo 2 over the weekend. I needed to brush up on the Halo skills before the beta drops. Also got in a little Shadowrun.
My girlfriend and I have been alternating levels on Super Paper Mario – both of us love that game to death.
A friend came over saturday and we had a co-op marathon of Earth Defense Force 2017. Ended up beating the game and starting over on higher difficulties.
At bedtime I’ve been rocking my GameCube with either Paper Mario: TTYD, Fire Emblem: PoR (found a sealed copy @ Target for $15!) or my DS with either Puzzle Quest or Magical Starsign (really liking this game, not sure why it was getting average reviews).
That’s that, definitely a gaming hangover but it will continue later!
Saturday I was lazy and played games most of the day. Guitar Hero 2, Worms XBLA, and the Shadowrun beta was the main things I played. On my DS I’ve been playing NSMB and Sonic Rush.
No hangovers here. I learned long ago not to touch the games too late, especially with a young’un like you’ve got. Still can’t take down Death on my second run through Dawn of Sorrow. That bony bastard with his spinning scythe!
