Gameover: The Infinite Alien Army Edition

RFOM Great BritainIf it’s Monday it’s time for Gameover, the gaming hangover post. Another weekend has blown by us, and here in the northeastern US the weather was bright, sunny, and borderline hot. It was a welcome break after last weekend’s massive flooding and rains. What did I play?

I’ve packed up my current crop of PSP rentals to go back:
* Chili Con Carnage was good fun.
* Puzzle Quest is a great little game that deserves the hype and has some serious legs. Unfortunately it’s hobbled on the PSP and DS with no online play. Why just the PC? WHY?
* The Metal Slug Collection is a must-play for anyone who likes shooters. I never played any of the six Metal Slug games on the UMD in the arcade, but I found the PSP collection to look great and play well. I can only imagine that a fan of them wouldn’t be able to put it down.

In terms of full-sized console fare, I continued slamming my head against the Conduits level in Resistance: Fall of Man. I can’t make any headway in this level — the aliens just keep coming at me across a bridge and I can’t survive the trip across no matter what weapons/grenades I use to try and clear a path. As Danny Glover’s character would say in the later Lethal Weapon movies: “I’m getting too old for this”… stuff.

What did you play this weekend?

    Here was my weekend hitlist:

Advent Rising – Awful controls. Lame story. I think I’m done playing this one.

Lost Planet – I didn’t like the demo and I’m not liking the full game either. Adios snow planet!

Super Paper Mario – Approaching World 8!

Puzzle Quest – I keep getting housed by an ogre boss. Driving me nuts.

The sun was out and I was grilling so my weekend gaming was light.

In Resistance, you just have to clear out that bridge before crossing it – the enemies keep coming for a while, but they are not infinite.

I just got my wife hooked on Meteos, and ended up buying her a DS Lite. I finally broke down and picked up Puzzle Quest, but was heartbroken to see that it did not have single-card multi-play. I wanted the PSP version for the better graphics, but now it’s at a commitment level I am weary about – I don’t know if she will be up for the complexity of the game. DANG!

I beat Super Paper Mario – overall, I would give it a 7/10. VERY easy, but took a full 17 hours, including the pit of 100 trials.

Still waiting for my copies of the Bit Generations and DJMaxP2 to show up – I ordered on March 30th and they shipped on April 10th – WHERE ARE THEY?!?!
