First Saturn game appears on GameTap, more to come.
GameTap has announced that they have begun offering ports of titles originally available for the Sega Saturn, beginning with a game called “Bug.”
As for Bug!’s appearance on the service, the game’s description explains that the debut is “…a hidden one-week sneak peek of planetary proportions”, and continues: “Stay tuned for the launch of more games for the Sega Saturn later this year.”
Specific titles to debut from the Saturn on GameTap have not yet been revealed, but all first-party Sega games could be likely candidates for an appearance on the service. Sega-published Dreamcast games currently available for play on GameTap include Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi and Toy Commander.
This stands as a stark reminder to people like me who are loving the Wii Virtual Console that with current hardware, we’ll never see this kind of thing. Unlike PS3 and 360 owners, we’re working with a very small amount of internal storage that is only expandable through SD cards which we cannot run software from. There is still hope, however.
