DJ Max Portable 2 Import Impressions
Finally a copy of DJ Max Portable 2 has arrived at my door. This franchise is possibly the best on the system but has yet to officially hit the States in retail form. This will be my first venture into the DJ Max Portable ring and I’ve been eagerly awaiting it’s release.
I have yet to find a song that I don’t enjoy, although most will be unfamiliar to anyone who listens to mainstream US music. There are a few hip hop songs included in the mix, but again, nothing you’ve probably ever heard. It’s refreshing to not be constantly bombarded by the same bland dance and electronic riffs.

What immediately surprised me about DJ Max Portable 2 were it’s unusually long load times. While the load before a song is hidden by a short cartoon related to the song, many others aren’t. I counted about 12 seconds from the end of a song back to the menu where you can choose another. The load to prep a song takes anywhere from 10 to 15 seconds.
While that isn’t horrible, load times are virtually non-existent on any recent PSP games. Music titles like Lumines II and Gunpey don’t suffer any noticeable load times at all and while DJMP2 has a lot more eye candy than the other two, the load times could’ve been improved with a little more elbow grease.
Other than that, it’s an absolutely excellent game so far. Play-Asia.com has it for about $49.99 US right now and my early impressions are a big thumbs up. My PSP is definitely getting a good workout. Pentavision just saved me an $89.99 Guitar Hero 2 purchase. Look for a full review sometime next week.
