Channel surfing on my Wii getting boring.
OK, so there are 16 channels on my Wii: eight system channels, and eight Virtual Console games. The last channel that was released was the Everybody Votes Channel on Valentine’s Day, and the next one is likely to be the Mii Popularity Contest Channel. As much as I was wondering about Everybody Votes, it’s really pretty fun. It took until today to get a worthwhile question though: Coffee or Tea? That was easy. The irony? I voted coffee, then went and made a cup of tea. Was that spattering sound your head exploding?
I’m finding, however, that what I really want is for Nintendo to put out some really useful channels. Also, we could use a sponge to pick up all that head shrapnel.
I’d like to see a friend manager channel where we can centrally manage everything related to our online play options like friend codes. Of course, we’d need some online play first, maybe those could launch together. Or how about a data manager channel? Rip the data manager out of the settings menu and make it its own channel, shine it up a bit and let us put our Gamecube saves on the Wii’s internal storage or even an SD Card. Still can’t do that with the one that’s there in the system menu.
I’m not going to get into my old music channel wish again, I promise. And while a demo station channel that lets me send DS demos to my handheld would be nice, turning my Wii into a DS download station right in my own home, one thing I haven’t heard anyone mention is demos of the software on the Wii Shop Channel. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve browsed the Shop Channel, wondering which of the games I’ve never heard of is any good. I don’t trust online reviews for old games well enough to just go for it. Even a game trailers channel would be nice. They look like crap on YouTube, and the other sites won’t even play in the Wii Opera browser. How about some nice big trailers for recent or upcoming games?
I’m sure Nintendo’s working on at least some of these ideas already while Shigeru Miyamoto makes more toy channels for us like the Popularity Channel, but it doesn’t hurt to share thoughts. What channel would you most like to see?
