Bethesda Becomes Exclusive Owner of Fallout

In the “No Surprise Here” category, Bethesda Softworks has bought the exclusive rights to the Fallout franchise and now owns it in its entirety. Bethesda has also grated Interplay, the former owner of the franchise, the right to continue with a Fallout branded MMORPG.
The terms of the agreement between Bethesda and Interplay were rather detailed. It requires the game to come out four years from the commencement of the project, it must charge a subscription fee and must have 10,000 monthly subscribers. And the biggest clause is that it can have no single player component. This is a big deal, because a lot of newer MMORPG games come with a single player instanced components that allow for partying, for example Guild Wars.
Also, there is a date, sort of, with the release of the MMORPG. The story states that the game may not come out until 2013, which is quite a ways away for a project like this.
