Beautiful Katamari To Grace 360 and PS3

Beautiful KatamariBack in December of 2006, Kat noticed a rumor about a possible new Katamari game coming based on some name registrations done by Namco Bandai.

At the end of March a rumor floated around that Namco had let retailers know a new Katamari game was coming. Beautiful Katamari was to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 17th for $39.99, said Orange Lounge Radio, and a Wii version would be $29.99 and hit on November 14th.

Orange Lounge Radio was directed by Namco Bandai to pull the posting, says Joystiq in another posting that mentions the three titles were showing up in GameFly searches with release dates in the same months mentioned by OLR.

Today Joystiq and Kotaku posted information on Beautiful Katamari, but only for the 360 and the PS3. The game will also apparently feature online play. Namco Bandai has chimed in that they would like to put it on the Wii as well, but haven’t worked out how the controls would work yet. They’ve also said the game is roughly half finished.

I’m looking forward to a new Katamari game, and I think the save-the-animals storyline from Me & My Katamari on the PSP would make a good storyline for a full-sized game. I’m wondering how it’ll look given that the originals weren’t well-known for their graphics and I’m very curious about how online play will work. The later Katamari games had co-op modes that were pretty good, but online co-op should be better. Time will tell.
