Wipeout Pulse Proves That All Isn’t Lost With Sony

WPulse.jpgAlmost two years ago, I completed the final version of my early pieces of game journalism. My Wipeout Pure game FAQ was a labor of love, love not for the FAQ itself but for my newfound favorite franchise, Wipeout. I had always been interested in Wipeout throughout the years and the PSP version’s stellar reviews finally hooked me in. Literally hundreds of gameplay hours later, I’m permanently a Wipeout fanboy.

Today’s news about another Wipeout title hitting my favorite handheld was expected, the news of the game’s features absolutely was not. Terms like, “online multiplayer” and “custom soundtracks off of your memory stick” have been tossed around like pancakes at an IHOP next to Weight Watchers.

Music directly from the .mp3′s on my memory stick? Online multiplayer? Downloadable content? An online community to share screenshots I take of my ship? These were all pipe dreams to me back in 2005 but today, or this September rather, it’s a reality. The Playstation Network is sure to be live on the PSP by then and this online community should be built on that. These are all signs that while they’re definitely down, Sony if far from out.

They’re actually listening to the community, which is an excellent start. Now let’s see if the PS3 Wipeout in development will have connectivity to the PSP version. Geez, I’m never satisfied.

Infrastructure play and custom soundtracks is fantastic news!

Too many people dismiss the PSP has having “No games wah wah wah!” but there are enough top-tier games for it that anyone who owns one alongside a full-sized console has to try hard to not have something to play.

It’s probably taken longer to get here than anyone expected, but it’s a really good time to have a PSP.
