WeeWorld sues Nintendo, tries to back out

Submitted by on March 21, 2007 – 3:47 am3 Comments

weemee.gifI hadn’t heard, but WeeWorld, an online community of sorts, had sued Nintendo for trademark violations over the Wii. WeeWorld’s avatars are called WeeMees… you can see the conflict with Wii Miis. WeeWorld claims to have offered these avatars (currently featured on AOL Instant Messenger) since 2001; however, Nintendo says that WeeWorld didn’t announce the name of their avatars until after Nintendo had announced the Wii and the Mii channel.

I think WeeWorld knows they’re on the losing end of this battle, because they tried to drop the lawsuit, but Nintendo won’t let them. Guess WeeWorld will have to finish what they started.

I’m happy to see Nintendo clamping down on them with their big legal jaws. Spurious lawsuits help nobody. That is if Nintendo’s claim about them naming their little characters after Nintendo named their stuff is accurate.

Seems more like Nintendo will be finishing what WeeWorld started. They’ve got some bored, brand-new lawyers over there after that airborne Wii Remote thing came to nothing.

I absolutely hope Nintendo comes down hard because, as mentioned above, cheeky lawsuits that are just blatant attempts to sap money out of a large organisation are just wrong and are a serious plague.

I think it’s reputably more predominant in the US but it’s getting pretty lame here in the UK too with all these ads on television trying to get people to sue for accidents that are really their own dumb fault and stuff.

A swift slap back from Nintendo might send a message out to at least a few people!
