The Moment I Try To Take My Save Game Out…
…they pull me back in.
I’ve discovered something new and interesting not just about The Godfather: The Don’s Edition for the PS3, but a, hmm, “feature” of the PS3 itself.
One of the great little things about the PS3 is that saved game data can be copied on and off of removable storage. If you have the 60GB model you can copy it to flash data cards, and if you have either model you can copy it to a USB storage device, including external hard drives and so-called flash drives. You can do this with PS1 saves, PS2 saves, and even PS3 saves. This lets me take my Resistance: Fall of Man saved game or my God Of War II saved game and copy it to a teeny tiny 16MB SD card that was too small to be of use otherwise and take it to my friend’s house so I can show him a cool part I’m playing.
The catch? Apparently publishers can disable the ability to copy data. When I tried copying The Godfather: The Don’s Edition saved game data to my flash card it told me I was “not allowed” to copy this data. Excuse me? I played your damned game for a few hours and want to show it off, and I can’t take it with me? I mean what’s the point, really? It’s a single player game! Are your precious online leaderboards worth that much? Then separate the leaderboard data configuration from the saved game data, ok?
It’s pretty annoying, and it definitely puts a second black mark on a game that I was considering picking up after my rental time with it is overwith. The first black mark? Tune in next time.
