Raving Rabbids Almost Made Me Sick

raymanravingrabbids_jumping.jpgI had the chance to try Rayman Raving Rabbids on the Wii a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to say that the game almost made me sick. In a good way. I was simply laughing really hard at the game, so hard I had to stagger away from it for a minute to catch my breath.

The events that had me on the floor gasping for air were Cow Tossing and Rabbids Don’t Give Gifts. The doppler on the cow as it whips around, hammer toss style is just hysterically funny, and the matter-of-fact way they hand the bomb to you and then light it for you to run in hyper-fast motion to deliver both killed me. One other event I saw that I also really liked involved drawing food on the screen to try and overfeed one of the Rabbids. It wasn’t as funny as the others, but the challenge was cool and fun.

UbiSoft did a fantastic job with the game and as far as I can tell in one fell swoop knighted themselves as the best third party developer on the Wii. Except maybe for the other games they put out on the system. Everyone else has probably said it all over the place, but if you don’t have Rayman Raving Rabbids for the Wii, you are missing out on probably the best third-party game for the system.

Yeah, I only have Wii Sports and Rayman and I love RRR a lot. I love the music mini games I think those were done really well, and the music is really funny.

Oops, I meant to write “best third-party game for the system”. Corrected.

Hah! Yeah, it’s a good game, but some of the later minigames are a flat-out miss. I found myself backing out after one attempt on some of them, and the variants of those that showed up later only made me back out before trying. The contrast is pretty stark. Some of the minigames, like the ones you mention, are great, but others are just too hard because of the design choices.

I had some problems with the musical ones because the sensitivity is so sharp in the game. Slight movements I’d make with one arm due to moving the other would register a hit and I’d lost points.

I love the game, but because they don’t randomize the minigames (such as Warioware does) I am now stuck because I can’t complete one of them no matter how hard I try.

I’ve never been able to do “Labyrinth” style tilt mini games EVER in any form, and now I can’t enjoy the rest of Rabbids because I’m stuck on that one game. That smacks of bad design to me.
