PS3 To Get Its Rumble Back?

Submitted by on March 1, 2007 – 7:45 pm6 Comments

Imback.gifSony has officially ended its legal action with Immersion and now plans to bring rumble technology back to the Playstation brand. They have not officially stated that PS3 controllers with rumble will be availible but in all likelihood we will see new controllers on the market very soon.

“We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us,” said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas. “Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products.”

This is a good thing no doubt, but the best part will be watching all the fanboys backtrack after saying they didn’t like rumble anyways….you know who you are! With this fixed now all they have to do is actually start producing games.

From a story on gamedaily about why they were excluding rumble….

“Most assumed the removal of rumble was due to Sony’s having lost a suit to force feedback company Immersion, but Sony maintained that the real reason for no rumble is that the vibration interferes with the pad’s new motion sensing capabilities.”

I guess they got this “interference” issue straightened out right about at the same time the suite with immersion was cleared up. HA!
    Why must you lie Sony!?

After all that crap about why rumble was left out ‘purposely’ because its not ‘next-gen.’

You know I am glad to hear this, but think about it would Sony actually tell us the consumer that rumble was removed because of a bad move with Immersion. It’s a corporation and they don’t wanna look bad in front of us right. “We” understand but “we” are a little different, I want rumble Sony ….NOW

I can’t say I missed it, so it possibly coming back doesn’t get me excited. A buzzing controller never helped me get more ‘into’ the game. In fact, I ended up shutting it off most of the time. You do A LOT of firing in Devil May Cry and it was buzzing enough it hardly seemed associated with the action any more.

I say leave it out. I’ll take the great battery life the controllers have now over vibration.

I have lost any and all respect for the Sony corporate Yakuza lying and trying to rip everybody’s balls off. Since the introduction of the rumble feature in controllers, it has done nothing but add to the gaming experience, for Sony to go on and blow smoke up the industry’s ying-yang writing off the ‘so last-gen’ rumble feature. Good to see that they finally got through their skulls that they better chase and hop back on the wagon before we all leave them and their little flute behind.

Sony needed to settle sooner or later. They were getting their butts kicked in court. I’m just surprised they held out this long.

I doubt we’ll see a Dual Shock 3 anytime soon, but you never know. Immersion’s just talking about proposals, which means hardware is probably a ways off.
