Meet the Xbox 360 Elite

Submitted by on March 28, 2007 – 2:29 am5 Comments

bgeliteConsole.jpgRumored to already be in production, Xbox.com is now officially announcing the Xbox 360 Elite. The Elite is basically a Premium Xbox 360 bundled with a 120gb hard drive an HDMI-out port and HDMI-cable (component cable too, apparently), all packed in a new sexy black finish. The new console will retail for $479.99.

Thinking about the Hard Drive alone? Well, the 120gb drive will cost you $179.95 with a software transfer cable and some bundled transfer software. That’s a horribly expensive hard drive, no matter how you shake it. With the size increase basically being used for the Video Marketplace, I don’t see any value for my gaming. The HDMI-out is worthless to me as well, I have yet to see any improvement in HDMI over component.

The Elite will be in stores on April 29th in the US and Canada. It will be shipping later in the summer for the rest of the world. The larger hard drive should hit store shelves prior to the Elite’s release.

So here it is, I want to hear the official word from 360 owners. I know I won’t be buying this thing, will you? Specs inside.

Elite Console

Xbox 360 Elite is equipped with a premium black finish and three powerful core processors capable of producing the best in high-definition entertainment, full surround sound, HDMI output, and DVD playback with upscaling capabilities right out of the box.

120 Gigabyte Hard Drive

The huge 120GB detachable hard drive is the largest available on any console. It lets you save your games and store television shows, movies, music, pictures, trailers, extra game levels, demos, and other content available from Xbox Live Marketplace.

Elite Wireless Controller

The sleek black finish of this high-performance wireless controller matches the style of the Elite Console. It has a range of up to 30 feet and a battery life of 30 hours on two AA batteries.

With the new black Rechargeable Battery Packs, you can juice up additional wireless controllers with the Play and Charge Kit you already own. Match the style of Xbox 360 Elite with the black Rechargeable Battery Pack. (Sold Separately)

Black Play & Charge Kit

Now available in black, the Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit comes complete with a charging cable and rechargeable battery pack. It’s all you need to juice up your Xbox 360 Wireless Controller. (Sold Separately)

Honestly, now that its official, its too expensive for what you get. Its like M$ forgot everything that they knocked Sony about with PS3 price. Now they’ve gone and built their own version of it. At $480, I’d rather pay another $20 for a PS3.

I don’t plan on purchasing it at all. I think the shiny black is ugly for one reason. It would be fantastic though if they could someway get out an HDMI cable to work with the original 360. I would like to free up my component inputs for HD cable box usage later.

No built in wifi, no HD-DVD drive…and this is elite?

i just want the hard drive im not gona pay for this monster dam it tho its 180$ thats alot i can buy a ds and a 360 game for that price Fuckkk

    ohh I’m buying one!, when:
They migrate the components to run alot cooler.
Paint it with a price drop.
Introduce games developed at 1080p natively.
Or, I could just wait ’till I can purchase a 120gb HD for about $120 and crown my core.sys with it instead. ‘Till then, let the people of “that little island” get all the sales.
