Koei’s Opoona is an RPG with balls.

balls.pngAt Kotaku they have what I believe to be the first trailer for the recently revealed Opoona, which looks like it will be the first original RPG to hit Wii. The look of the trailer, which shows a cel-shaded game, is very clean and distinctive. Not a bad job considering this comes from the company behind Dynasty Warriors. Not a franchise known for its creativity, as I understand.

This makes me misty that we never saw Homeland or Giftpia in the US last generation. Still, I need to be careful. I made the mistake of picking up Evolution Worlds when it hit for the Cube because it was the first RPG. I’ll be watching for reviews this time around. That game sucked.

Let’s hope this one turns out as well as it looks, because it would be nice to see what RPGs are going to be like on this platform. It’s all in Japanese, and I’m not sure what’s up with all the balls. Check it out.

I was totally uninterested in this game the first time I saw it revealed a few days ago. Then I heard it was an RPG and thought, “huh?”. Then I watched the video and for the first half thought, “huh?”.
Then when you see the combat, the balls over their heads make sense and it looks very “interesting”.
I will be watching this more closely now and will likely rent it at least. Who knows, when you go off the beaten track like this, you can sometimes find some interesting places to visit, other times you can step in a pile of poop.

First thing I thought was the NPCs are more detailed as the player characters, thats special. But hey what can I say, I kinda like the idea of having a orange as weapon, and his sister got two grapes which is even better.
