Grab Your Shovel: Condemned Sequel Coming?

Condemned_boxart.jpg“Watch this! I’m going to *BONG* haha! I just beat him with this pipe!”

The first time I saw Condemned also happened to be the first time I saw an Xbox 360 in a home. I don’t think it was the best first impression of an Xbox 360, nor was it the best first impression of Condemned. Since then, I’ve never even given the game a second thought, much to the chagrin of my friends.

Gamespot comments on a QJ post that Condemned 2 is possibly in development. Sega hasn’t confirmed it and I don’t think the original exactly blasted up the retail charts but I’ve seen sequels for less than stellar initial releases. I think the Condemned franchise needs to separate itself from the pack a bit, not necessarily just making it more violent.

What do you think the sequel should improve on?

This was the only launch title I played. My brother got a 360 at launch but I just wasn’t excited about it, this game caught my attention though. I actually think it’s a more solid effort from Monolith than F.E.A.R.

I’d love a sequel, as long as it doesn’t get retarded at the end like the first one.

I played through this one and I felt it was a very successful game for the fact that it was scary from beginning to end. I loved the character design, the sound, and a great storyline. However, combat became very repetitive, and I felt it was too linear without much freedom to explore different areas or decide which paths to take or how to go about killing a psychopath. Also, holding a lead pipe throughout the entire game isn’t much fun when you are trying to get the melee only achievement. If you are going to have an achievement like this in your game, at least make it more interesting to the player. So, a better combat system, more freedom to explore, more weapons, and overall variety to avoid making the game repetitive and linear.

Having said that, I loved Condemned and I will definitely pick up the sequel.

I quite liked this game, but I had it on the PC. The 360 version wasn’t much different. It actually freaked me out frequently – call me a wuss, but it had the scare factor. Part two should be a less linear storyline and gameplay. I too got bored half way through.

This game almost made me late for a class… I was very near the end of the game and had to run out leaving the game paused. I absolutely loved this game.
