Cooking Mama – my thoughts

cookingmama.jpgI know Cooking Mama has been out for a while, but I just got it. It didn’t get old as fast as I expected it to – within an hour. However, I only started it yesterday and I finished it this morning. When I say finished, in this case, I mean I got through all the recipes. You see, for each recipe you can get a bronze, silver, or gold medal, and I never failed so badly that I got less than a bronze, so I’m not sure you CAN score less than a bronze. I think I only got a bronze on two recipes, gold on 5 or 6, and silver on the rest. There’s nothing really motivating me to go back and get the gold medals. I can play the “Let’s Combine” and combine recipes, but there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to it. It is definitely a short game, but I think I liked it. It’s one of those games you can pick up when you’re in a waiting room and have 20 minutes to kill, anyways.

I don’t think I’ll pick up the sequel for the Wii, though, once I get a Wii. Now, I’ve only spent 10 minutes playing a Wii, and it was Excite Truck, but I forsee some problems with Cooking Mama on the Wii. I just don’t see the fine movements required translating well to the Wiimote. (And yes, I know a flick of the wrist can send your tennis ball flying). Then again, I imagine Trauma Center would require the same sort of movements, and I haven’t heard of any major problems with it. Since the release date for Cooking Mama: Cook Off is March 20th, I guess we’ll find out for sure pretty soon.
