epyx_impossible_mission_rounded.pngBack in August, developer System 3 acquired the rights to some age-old classic games from the Epyx library. The first game they’d planned on releasing was Impossible Mission on the PSP and DS. Back then they predicted a January 2007 launch.  Looks like they missed it by that much.

PocketGamer UK has picked up the scent, and aside from waxing nostalgic over the original game mentions the game will be updating the original with new 3D objects, sound, and music. Back in August the developers said all the right things by saying the spirit and gameplay of the original game has to be preserved, and this is music to my ears.  Planned additions to the game include three selectable characters, a tutorial mode, and apparently three game play modes featuring the original game, the new 3D game, and a hybrid game between the two. It will also support local game sharing.
