A Virtual Apartment….Gee I’m All Tingly Inside

pshome.jpgI really want to say something positive about PSHOME, but in all reality I keep asking myself, why would I waste my time in a rehash of Second life when I could actually be playing games? I know that PSHOME is much more then just a Second Life rip-off, but it seems like Sony is still ignoring the main cry of most serious gamers. That cry is for great game content, not for avatars that can dance! As gamers get older they have less time to fuss with gimmicks and clumsy interfaces. Give us a simple user interface that connects everyone and we would be happy.

This service really only caters to those who have enough time to waste on decorating a virtual apartment. Hell, I don’t have time to decorate my own apartment. I haven’t been a big fan of Sony’s over the last year, but I really do want them to deliver on what they have been promising because I truly don’t care what platform a great game comes out on. I have my 360 and I have my Wii, but PSHOME is not a feature that will make me spend $600 on a game console. Get some games out that are worthy of that price and then we start giving you some love.

PSHOME is a neat little feature, but it is far from revolutionary and only puts a spotlight on their extreme lack of content, and I know we are only a few months past launch, but we should have at least one other good game besides Resistance by now.

I know many of you will have a differing opinion, so please feel free to let me know what you think of PSHOME.

It si kinda sad that PS fans get all excited about a feature that began over 20 years ago.

PShome looks like something that will get old really really fast, the PS fanboys only like it because it makes it look like the PS3 is better, but games are still more important. I do hope that this home does a good job with friends lists, thats the thing I truly despise about my PS3

I’m surprised. I expected it to be cartoonish, primitive-looking, even 2D. Since it isn’t, I can see where fears of having to wade through a 3D world to get at matchmaking features can come from.

It’s interesting to see them taking on a definite Sims-like style, putting in Second Life interactivity. I saw a full video here as submitted by StrategyInformer: http://www.strategyinformer.com/ps3/playstation3hardware/movie/12239.html

As for wasting time getting around and using a new interface, a good UI can take all of that away. Has Sony proven the ability to make a great UI? Nope, but they’ve never proven they can make anything like the video shows us before, either.

I’m impressed by what I’ve seen. Let’s see what they deliver.

useless in my opinion and hopefully the 360 doesn’t try to pull off the same crap now if that achievement thing comes out for the PS3 then there might be a problem and as for there content they really need a decent game thats only for them other wise there gona be in the red

I’m sorry, I was playing a game, I forgot to care about Mii and Pii’s.

Sony can’t even get the freakin’ PSN or Store on my PSP, I can’t wait to see how long it’ll take whatever this is to roll out.

  • Subnet6

Don’t get me wrong, I really love Miis but damnit, I just want simple online co-op, simple matchmaking, and downloadable demos. MS is pretty much already there, except it costs extra, which I find bothersome. I don’t care about horse armor, and please don’t sell me half a game and expect me to pay more to download the rest. Now, Sony and Nintendo please get this right. We don’t need a fracking online home away from home, just the shit I mentioned. And sooner rather than later please. Thanks.

I don’t see why everyone is so upset over PSH. Granted, Sony needs to get its act together when it comes to creating better PS3 games. I don’t, however, see PSH as some kind of distraction from that fact. It’s free! If you don’t really care for it, get PS3 for the games; if you don’t like the games, don’t get a PS3.

Myself, I’ve been strictly an offline gamer (sad, right? I know there are a few of us out there), and I plan to get a PS3 when it has a better lineup. For people like myself who don’t find online gaming as appealing as others out there, free perks like PSH offer a real incentive to start exploring online gaming. Besides, it’s not like they can raise the pricetag any more because of PSH (let’s all cross our fingers).

From waht I have seen and read, PShome is a a feature of the ps3, in other words its just part of the XMB, you’ll still be able to just do the little things that you want to do, but hey if you feel like venturing into this world, its their for you to use, and guess what…you ready? IT’S FREE. There is nothing to complain about here, sony is making the write move here. As far as needing games..everyone and their mother knew there was going to be a game drought at first, so why all the bitching about it?

  • Nate

Hey bill, I’ll give you my S#$t in a bag, that’s free too! And me telling you that it’s S#$t in a bag, doesn’t make it taste any better. Boy i’m glad sony keeps making these “write” decisions.

  • bill

Nate, first sorry about the grammer mistake it was 2am and I just got home from work. Second, why so quick to dismiss something you’ve never seen in person or used? Because it has the Sony name on it?

  • joelface

    nate.. you are a fool.

Bill has it exactly right, you can use your ps3 for games without the use of PShome. its a free service that promises to add tons of features to the ps3.. to complain about it, and compare it to a bag of poo is perhaps the lamest thing i’ve read in a long time.

complain about something that costs money at least! i personally think pshome will be GREAT for organizing multiplayer experiences. it wont be as abstract as most systems for organizing games are..

customizing your avatar will be totally fun, in fact, i know of several non-gamers who spent hours and hours with the sims creating characters… so its silly to suggest thats not a good feature.

same thing with the apartments… it doesnt look hard to do, and when you add pooltables and arcades to your house, i cant imagine not thinking thats cool..

hanging huge picture frames of all your coolest pictures off of your harddrive.. also very cool.

all the furniture has realistic physics, which is awesome! better than most games have!

and in comparison to microsofts achievement points, i think sony’s trophy room trumps it completely.

so, i guess you can feel free to have your opinion, but i think that whats most likely is that your just not willing to admit its cool because your most likely an xbox fanboy, or something, who would hate ANYTHING that put your console of choice into the not-as-awesome catagory.

  • sifer2400

joelface u sound like ur a sony fan boy so dont acuze other people of being like that

  • KALYSTA
