Wii LAN adapter now available.

Nintendo’s first USB device for the Wii has finally appeared in their online store, and it’s the USB LAN adapter. By default, the Wii connects to the Internet using your wireless connection, but for some people this isn’t the way the want to do it, and at $24.99, this device gives them a pricey alternative.

I can see people who are having trouble isolating what’s interfering with their connection picking this up just to get around that issue. I can’t see too many people being happy about paying $25 for something like this though. For me, the interesting thing here is that now Nintendo is making USB devices for the Wii. Who know what could be next.

    The price isn’t THAT bad.

There is only one model at Compusa cheaper than $25. There are about 10 models at $25 or higher.

Here is a link to the cheaper one. It doesn’t match the Wii, but I’ll bet it would work just the same.

  • John H,

Well, if past performance is anything to go by, those USB ports will go unused by anything but the LAN adapter for the life of the system. Nintendo is infamous for putting ports on their machines that go almost unused (if not entirely unused). The fact that this one’s USB doesn’t make then different, considering the system still has to have drivers to make those peripherals work.

I could care less about USB peripherals. All I care about is being able to use the port to power batter chargers, (which it already does) and to support HDDs which it damn well better soon.

Yep, I intend to use a USB port to power my Wii Remote charger when I get one.
