bluering.pngA few minutes ago I noticed my Wii signaling me that I had a message (glowing blue ring-around-the-slot), so I fired it up and went into my inbox to find a memo from Nintendo suggesting I replace my wrist straps if I haven’t already. Read on for the full text.

Wii Remote Wrist Strap

We hope you are enjoying your Wii console.

Nintendo has received some reports that when consumers swing the Wii Remote with the original version of the wrist-strap using excessive force and accidentally let go, the cord connecting the controller to the wrist strap can break. Nintendo has made a new version of the Wii Remote wrist strap available to replace the original one used in early product shipments.

Please call (800) 859-4519 or visit http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp to determine if you need to replace your wrist strap.

Thank you!

I’ve already replaced mine, so I’m set. How about you guys?

i fear what this world has come to when holding onto a controller is considered an “intelligent act”. somehow i think i will avoid turning my 2 in and i’ll try a new approach called “not being a dumba**”.

Man.. That Nintendo falls for such thing. It might be the right thing to do. But why do they supply idiots who cant even learn how to hold a controller ~.~. Your supposed to HOLD it. Not THROW it. ~.~

You’re supposed to hold it AND make throwing motions with it. Add some sweat to the slick plastic and done, it’s a projectile.

In addition, the strap is being accounted for in software already. One mini-game in Warioware actually tells you to drop the controller. The assumption is that the strap will catch it. The instruction is something like “drop it!” or “let go!”. To which I responded by freezing and going “they want me to do what?! No!” and of course I lost that mini-game by the time I got to saying “no.”

Especially after all the stuff online, true or not, I could not bring myself to drop the controller, which is far less than even throwing it, even with the new, stronger strap.

I prefer to call them “Wiimails” instead of “Wii e-memos”. That has a nicer ring, I think.
