Wait For It: Vice City Stories for the PS2

gtavcs_evening_200702.pngBack in September Rockstar said they had “no plans” to port Vice City Stories to PS2 in Computer And Video Games Magazine, via GamePro. This surprised me at the time since Liberty City Stories was ported over, and sure enough Vice City Stories will be ported over. It’s actually basically finished, with an early March ship date in the US and EU.

I’m happy about this, because I think the PSP’s lack of a second analog stick and second set of shoulder buttons makes playing GTA games too hard. I’m currently working my way through Liberty City Stories on the PS2 and it’s got a very nostalgic feel for me, since it’s set in the same location GTA 3 was set in. It’s also pretty far behind all the great things the franchise had to offer in San Andreas, but that’s another story.

I’ll bet that knowing that the game was eventually going to hit the PS2 really dampened PSP sales. That could be why Vice City Stories has seen its price drop to $29.99 almost everywhere even before this announcement. Do you think PS2 ports of PSP games really hurts sales?

I love GTA games, its the only game that will make me unplug my 360 and get the dusty ps2 out of the closet.

I dont have a psp so I wait for the ps2 version anyway, so no loss of psp sales from my end anyway.

The GTA games had enough control problems on the PS2, they were magnified on the PSP.

Vice City Stories didn’t sell nearly as well as LCS did. I think the hardcore fans knew it would hit the PS2 eventually and stayed away.
