Sony to Bait UK With Casino Royale

Submitted by on February 13, 2007 – 8:00 amOne Comment

UK_bait.JPGSony has announced that the first 500,000 UK consumers to register their PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network will receive a free copy of Casino Royale. This is definitely not Sony’s first free gift to early adopters. Back when the PS3 was launched in the US, the first 400,000 PS3 owners received a copy of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby in Blu-Ray format and the first 1,000,000 PSP’s shipped with a copy of Spider Man 2 in UMD format.

The PS3 finally launches in the UK on March 23rd and I expect the reaction in that region to mirror the lukewarm response from Japan and the US. Sony packaging the PS3 with a movie instead of a game shows us where their loyalties are. Three months after it’s release in the US, there aren’t any games that justify a $600 purchase.
