Red Faction To Blast Its Way Back Into Gaming

Submitted by on February 2, 2007 – 3:57 pm2 Comments

redfaction_200702.pngTHQ revealed in an investor conference call following the release of THQ’s financial results that they’re planning to release another Red Faction game. Red Faction is one of the first shooters I played on the PlayStation 2, having appeared early in its life cycle as a fun, sci-fi shooter set against a backdrop of miners rebelling against an aggressive world-spanning corporation on Mars.

Red Faction II took everything about Red Faction and made it better, including its signature gimmick of destructable scenery that sadly couldn’t be done everywhere in the game. It also was produced for the Xbox and GameCube alongside the PlayStation 2. The one thing Red Faction II lacked on the PS2 was online multiplayer. It was fun enough in local console deathmatching that I played it quite a bit and still own it.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing what THQ does with Red Faction III (if that’s what they call it) on the current generation of consoles, and I’m not alone. The person at THQ announcing it alongside other THQ-owned franchises called it his favorite franchise.

I love Red Faction. I thought Red Faction 2 was absolute crap, however. Red Faction 3 better rock.

I’m with TheBrain–I thought Red Faction 2 was terrible, but I still play the original game online to this day.
