I first noted this title on IGN way back in August of last year as “the first original title by Square-Enix for the platform”. Of course, it’s a spin-off, so that doesn’t really help much in terms of “originality”. On the other hand, now we have import reviews like this one at PocketGamer that Paul pointed out to me today.

They’re calling it Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, while IGN referred to it as Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book. DSFanboy had a trailer for it late last September. The finished product boasts lots of minigames mixed into the main RPG, online battles via Nintendo WiFi Connection, and card battles, which may be a good thing depending on your tastes.

“Indeed, play this game and you’ll soon realise it doesn’t really need the Final Fantasy tag at all. Chocobo Tales is such an enjoyable, varied title, it shows this is one bird ready to leave the nest and strike out on its own two wings. Let’s just hope it makes it as far as a European release.”

Looks like another winner for Square-Enix after their well-received Rocket Slime title. It will be interesting to see if this one comes to the US. And er, Europe, sure.

Via PocketGamer, thanks Paul.
