Opera for Wii to cost 500 points starting in June.

opera-wii.pngIt was previously known that the final version of the Opera 9 web browser for Wii would hit the Wii Shop Channel in March, and that it would have a price tag starting in June. That price, to my knowledge, was not made clear. Anyway, now it has, and it’s on Nintendo’s Wii customer service site.

The current version of the Internet Channel is a trial version and is available at no point cost. The final version is expected for release in March 2006, and will be free to download through the end of June 2006. After that point, it will cost 500 Wii Points to download.

I’m assuming they mean March 2007. Of course, by that assumption, maybe they mean 501 points, am I right? Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Not sure why I’m surprised it’s only as much as an NES game when most web browsers are free nowadays, but if they can pleasantly surprise me with a price tag, that can only be a good thing. Assuming the bugs are ironed out in the final version. At any rate, doesn’t really matter, does it? I’ve already got a Wii, so will have it free. If shortages persist past June, look for people stomping their feet at Nintendo’s customer service looking for a free download.

Naturally, if shortages went on that long they’d have bigger problems than giving away free downloads.

Wow! Nintendo’s so innovative they’re going to release the browser in 2006! Croikey!

“Naturally, if shortages went on that long they’d have bigger problems than giving away free downloads.”

Yeah, problems like a massive install base and incredible third party support. :)

How stupid do you have to be to pay for half a browser. I say half because Opera is barely worth calling a browser on any platform. If you have a computer, and 99% of America does, you won’t need a browser you pay for. Even if you get a free version of Linux you get a free browser. So why? Why would you ever pay $5.00 for a barely working…

You know what. Do yourself a favor and just spend a few more bucks for a converter or a cable that allows you to connect your computer you already have to your TV.

Relax, Nathan. Looks like you eated the purple berries again. Already have those cables, I like my monitor’s resolution better.

You’re missing the point of the article, which is that the browser will cost 500 points starting in June, when there wasn’t a price named before.

    It tastes like burning.
