My 6666 Gamerscore Curse
[cell phone rings] I flip open the phone. “Hey? What’s up?” She had just left the house so it was unusual for her to call.
“Hey….the car is totaled.” I can hear road noise in the background and her phone is being battered by strong winds, indicative of someone standing on a New York Parkway. I hopped in my car to meet her and she was right, the car was totaled. She had stopped at a light and the person behind her forgot to stop, mashing the back end while pushing her vehicle into the car in-front of her. Besides some aches and pains she’s fine, but the car is gone.
This isn’t the only horrible thing that’s happened to me in the past 24 hours. Why do I happen to be counting down from 24 hours ago? Well, because that’s when my Gamerscore hit 6666.
I’m not a superstitious or even a religious man, I go through my days with the belief that aside of nature taking it’s course, I have control over my own destiny. I still believe that today but with the recent surge of shit that’s occurred since that faithful achievement point last night, I’ve been thinking twice.
Immediately after I unlocked the “Naomi Master” achievement in Fusion Frenzy 2, I turned off my Xbox 360 for the day. Dinner was just about done and I sat down for a delicious meal of homemade pizza. My first bite into a slice greeted me with a sharp pain in my jaw.
With food still in my mouth, I felt the hard chip rolling around. I had chipped my tooth and mumbled obscenities as I fished the shard from my mouth. The chip was very small and the immediate pain subsided (which has since returned ten fold), so I was able to finished dinner. I had to make a dentist appointment but this late in the day, I couldn’t do a thing until tomorrow.
About an hour later, while cleaning the shower, somehow the faucet was set to “shower” instead of “tub” while the water was off. This, you see, is supposed to be mechanically impossible. After scrubbing the tub, I flipped the water on full blast, expecting cold water to fill near my feet. Instead, I was blasted in the face with ice cold water from the shower head. Totally surprised, I stumbled back, slipped then fell.
Then, cut to this morning. The accident call I mentioned above. Could it get any worse? I’m in the office now and have to drive home, one can only imagine what wonderful events I have to look forward to tonight. There is one thing that I do know, however.
I need to unlock a freakin’ Achievement and fast.
