MSX, Neo Geo coming to Virtual Console.

old-games.pngNintendo has finally announced that the promised MSX functionality in the Wii Virtual Console will become a reality this year, as will (surprise) SNK’s NeoGeo. Well, I’m ready to pee myself if they bring this to the US, but most are already saying it’s pretty unlikely. As to NeoGeo, that did appear here despite its lack of success. Did I just say I’d pee myself? Ignore that. I already did.

So at this point, we need to think about what games we want to see on these systems. I’m predictable, as usual I’m thinking I want to play the Castlevania game that was on MSX. Just maybe. Yeah, I know, you saw that coming. Nintendo’s confirmed a pair of MSX games for March, a shooter called Aleste (which appeared in the US on the Sega Master System as “Power Strike”) and Eggy. For NeoGeo, let’s see. There were a lot of great games on that system, and I’ve never even been in the same room as that console, so it’s all good for me. I’ve heard King of Fighters is good, but Bust-A-Move is where I’m at.

Also of note in the GamaSutra article is mention of Actraiser‘s imminent appearance on the Virtual Console. I’m there, I could so play that game again.

Again, this is all Japan at this point, but I don’t see anything keeping them from bringing any of this to the US except MSX and that’s only due to lack of precedent: we’ve yet to see anything that hasn’t been available to us here in the US in the past on the Virtual Console, even though Nintendo says that could still happen.

The only NeoGeo games I’d want have already been released, in Metal Slug Anthology.
