Hasbro Wins Emmy for “Ugliest Game Controller”

NET-JET.jpgI can’t imagine a worse gift than one of those Atari joysticks pre-loaded with games that I have to plug into my TV. I think I’d rather turn my monitor off and play tick tac toe in the screen’s layer of dust instead. Unless it had Superman, Superman for Atari was pretty awesome. Lois, get off me! *ding ding*

Anyway, where am I? Oh yes, the hideous device you see above is called the NET JET and comes from the brilliant minds at Hasbro. For $25, you can apparently jack this sucker into your PC via USB and as long as you have web access, it will launch the game of choice. There are so many great kids games that are completely free online, why the heck would you pay for something like this?

If there was some way to download games onto the controller, then maybe it would have some value. Maybe. Oh and if anyone I know thinks it’ll be funny to get me one of these as a gift, I’ll beat you with it.

It sounds like you have to buy a game key. The online portion of the product is free. It makes sense that this is Tiger who is bringing us another iteration of the buy a card (key) for more playability product.

I made my supposition based on the information on Hasbro’s site, http://www.hasbro.com/tiger/netjet/

key or not, the flaw here is that you need net access to get a game rolling.
