Gamestop begging for games back

Submitted by on February 16, 2007 – 10:00 am3 Comments

telezapper.jpgBought a copy of Twilight Princess for the Wii from Gamestop? You might be getting a phone call soon. Apparently the automated calling system is calling up purchasers, asking if they’re done with the game and offering $35 for a trade-in. I think they must be desperate for more copies of the game.

From the Opposable Thumbs post:

“After I buy a game, I don’t want a call asking me to sell it BACK. They’re making an offer on product they know I have because apparently they cross reference their databases with their trade-in promotions these days. But I’m not selling my copy of Twilight Princess. I like Twilight Princess. I have 500 games in my collection; I don’t often trade them in. I also buy an insane amount of games, so any store who keeps me happy and coming back will make a lot of money.

GameStop…come on. This is low even for you. Stop calling me and begging from my trade-ins. Are you really that desperate?”

I’ve never heard of anything so ridiculous. I hope no one sells them back as payback for all the offers of $5 I’ve received for quality games in the past…

This sounds very odd. Maybe they were banking on a certain percentage of trade-ins on the title? It is a single player only game, but I think they are forgetting it’s Zelda.

I wonder if anyone got a recording of the message.

The horrible thing is they probably want it to sell for 5 bucks under sticker price. Or maybe they will reseal them and sell them as new, because their policies changed.

    Stupid monopolies…

i have never liked gamestop. i feel like they’re always trying to sell me some bogus warranties, and i know how everyone feels about their policy on opening new games. i sometime hear people say they’re going to be upset when all the game stores go out of business and they have to buy their games at best buy, but i won’t shed a tear if gamestop went under.
