Duh: Nintendo bringing Brain games to Wii.

Some screens I bumped into today show that Nintendo’s bringing their impossibly lucrative Brain games to the Wii. Looks like Big Brain Academy, based on the little professor icon guy who’s on the DS “Big Brain” box.

I’m seeing some stylish, cartoony shiny graphics, perfectly suited to the idea of these smartening non-games. Incidentally, if this shows up for $20 like the DS games did, I’ll pick it up. Especially if they bundle a nice sudoku game in there like they did on Brain Age.

But the best thing of all about Brain Age was how the speech recognition needed you to say “brue” instead of “blue” to ensure it would understand what you were saying. Good times.

Wait a sec. That makes me wonder if a microphone peripheral is on its way for this game, or if the DS interacts and serves as the microphone.

Umm, my bad. Gamespot had an article about this game last September.

    The screens are new though.

I’ve never played these games but I would imagine they’d be fun and educational for kids.

I can’t speak to Big Brain Academy for DS, but the Brain Age game for DS isn’t really an “educational” game per se. It’s about speed and accuracy, for example, how fast can you answer these easy math problems, identify the colors that other color names are printed in, etc. The concept is that if you have a quick mind, you have a young mind, and therefore a lower “brain age”. Daily practice is supposed to improve your brain age.

The sudoku game built into the game card is widely considered the best part. It’s very well designed.
