Composer Yuzo Koshiro making first VC appearances.

piano-keys.pngYuzo Koshiro? Who’s that?

Yuzo Koshiro was the composer behind the astonishing music in the Actraiser series on the SNES, and he recently did some of the music for Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (along with series mainstay Michiru Yamane, of course). What I did not know was that he also did the music for Streets of Rage and Beyond Oasis. Beyond Oasis? Well, I’d never really heard of it, but when I read an article at NWF that made a big deal out of the one recently-announced Genesis game that’s VC-bound that I’d never heard of, I decided to look it up. And it turns out the good Yuzo Koshiro did the music. Whee, doggies. I’m also seeing Legacy of the Wizard on that list too. Didn’t know he did that one, I loved the music in that game.

Streets of Rage recently hit the Virtual Console as well. Just this week, if I’m not mistaken. Being a bit of a gaming music audiophile, I find myself considering picking this game up based on the hype on NWF and the history I have with this man’s music.

Has anyone else picked up a VC game on word of mouth like this yet? It’s interesting to me to hear about what drives people to pick specific games other than when they have a history with the title.

If you Like Yuzo Koshiro, I highly recommend you check out Super Shinobi and Streets of Rage 2 for the Genesis. Easily some of his greatest work next to Actraiser.

I have been a fan of Yuzo Koshiro since he done the music in Street’s of rage (or Bare Knuckle as it was called in Japan), he also came back for the sequel Streets of Rage II. I just remember plugging my headphones in the small jack at the front of the Mega-Drive and sliding the volume up. Awesome!!

Why don’t Next-Gen consoles have a headphone jack? and why does the 360 have no audio outputs, it’s so annoying.
