Wii? Yep. PS3? Nope.

Wii_Spotting.jpgFinally a different take on the usual, ay? My local Circuit City finally received their first Wii’s since Christmas yesterday. I swung by last night and saw four of the little beauties piles up on the floor behind the counter.

Interesting part is that they’re completely sold out of PS3′s. The Circuit City employee I chatted with was equally surprised, just a few weeks ago they received dozens of calls a day looking for Wii’s while the PS3′s were piling on up. Now they finally get a few Wii’s and the majority of the calls are for the PS3.

Are the tides turning? Uh, not for $599 vs. $249. Am I surprised they sold out of healthy stock of PS3′s? Definitely.

You go to ONE store and its opposite. So what? I hate to brake it to you, but PS3 is not doing well, and it probably won’t do well in the long run.

He’s just making a point that PS3s aren’t piling up everywhere and Wii indeed can be found. This doesn’t represent any huge trend in console sales overall, but it is worth noting in the face of all the other stories that have been popping up. However, I doubt those Wii were around very long after the picture was taken!

That’s not much of a surprise. No store around me has received even one DS Lite and not even a regular DS can be found. I went looking for a second Guitar Hero controller to find my Best Buy, which recently had a pile of about 30, now has none. It’s like just before Christmas and every day through now there has been a huge game buying spree. People are buying basically anything they can get. I was lucky to find a couple extra Wii nunchuks at Target yesterday.

The market has gotten weird. Like why is it suddenly DS started selling huge, yet no one said anything. Not IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, nobody. Not even Nintendo has said a thing about their massive holiday sales numbers of DS lites. It’s like then entire country sold out of DS Lites, probably in the millions and no one cares. Everyone is focused on Japan numbers and Wii and PS3 and 360. Yet DS is cleaning up like crazy.

    Nathan.

Because the DS is outselling the Wii in spades, that’s why. Nintendo doesn’t want to glorify that, they can pretty much sit back and milk it like they did the GBA (and still are).
