Want to Change Up Your Soundtrack? Ask Pandora.

Got a playlist of favorite tunes to work or play games to? Ever wonder just why you like one song more than another? Ever want to find more music you’d like without having to listen to lots and lots of music you don’t like?
I recently got tipped off to a site called Pandora.com, part of the Music Genome project. It lets you sign up for a free account and streams music through your browser. It steadily learns your tastes by taking a starting artist or album from you and then playing songs with similar “Music DNA”, letting you vote them up or down. Each song rated teaches it more and more about that particular “station”, and you can have more than one station.
You can also ask it to tell you why it’s suggesting a given tune, and it’ll tell you the characteristics of the music that match what you’ve already liked. It’s a learning process and it won’t take long to start serving up some good stuff to listen to.
Take it for a spin at www.pandora.com. You never know what kinds of new music might come across to keep you going whether you’re gaming or not.
