Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

It’s been a rough time for Halo fans. I’ve been agonizing over trying to get into the Halo 3 beta. Although, as we get closer and closer to the release date (which I still personally believe will be 7/7/07, not November), the “beta” becomes more of a marketing tool, and less and less a development tool.

But I don’t care.

I want Halo 3. But here’s my problem. Like many of you, I was not fortunate enough to be selected by The Powers That Be for Halo 3 goodness. They must’ve seen my atrocious Team Rifles scores on Terminal. I hate that map…

What really sucks is that when everyone else is trying to align their personal biorhythms with The Rule Of Three, I’ll be previewing Crackdown, the game that supposedly will be shipping with Halo 3 beta keys. Hence, beta as marketing tool.

We’ll see though, I told myself I wouldn’t buy a game just for a demo packaged with said game. (FYI, I bought Dragon Quest VIII for the game, not the FFXII demo packaged with.) Maybe Crackdown will be good enough to warrant a purchase on its own merits. We shall see. (Based on the demo, I am quite intrigued, though.)

Meanwhile, between sessions of angsting about the Halo 3 beta, I’ve been dulling the pain with some World of Warcraft. Nothing like an escape to escape from my… escape.

Yikes.

  • James says:

I hate the free beta idea. I know people who aren’t purchasing Crackdown out of protest that they didn’t just send out more e-mail invites.

If I wasn’t already invited to the Beta, then I’d probably feel that way.

  • I don’t think it’s such a terrible idea to package in the beta as far as Microsoft is concerned, because Crackdown seems like a terrific game–which I claimed was the case prior to last E3–but it might be easily overlooked by the general public. But package in the Halo 3 beta, and you’re giving a promising IP a real chance to make an impression on a whole lot of people.

I’d really be ragging on Microsoft if Crackdown were a bad game, but it’s not, so I can’t complain.
