The Legend of Frank

cagcastgreen120.gifCheapyD commits what some may call a bit of heresy during CAGCast #58 when he asks a question many fanboys won’t particularly like. He asks if Legend of Zelda was called the Legend of Frank and was by a different developer, would it be getting the 95% scores that Twilight Princess has gotten? He says no. He likes Oblivion better and feels it’s a bigger achievement than Twilight Princess. He claims the name Zelda alone adds at least a whole point to a review.

He cites a number of other titles that are often compared to Zelda but don’t get enough respect. He mentions Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, which a friend of mine enjoyed playing with his kids no less, and Beyond Good And Evil which got critical acclaim but didn’t sell enough to keep the property from perishing.

Is Zelda overrated? While the property is much-loved, is the gameplay overdone? From what I’ve heard it’s so well done and refined in Twilight Princess that there really aren’t any complaints about over-use of the same gameplay mechanics.

Oh and for a special treat, listen all the way to the end for the content that closes the podcast. I’d forgotten all about the particular item.

Is Zelda overrated? Well … Yes. Oblivion may have had its following but its buzz was huge and with its refined framework, even with a morrowind skin It would sell even if it was from another developer. Legend of Frank would also sell but would mainly be labeled a copy of Legend of Zelda Oricana of Time. Now it can be claimed as a copy for the nost part, then its score scould be based on the fact that it is a copy with aged gameplay and storyline and much improved graphic. CheapyD makes a valid point in his opinion. I personally hold Fable in higher regards than Zelda Twilight Princess. What you probably heard was alot of fan(boy) service and nostalgia. Legend of Frank is a 8.0 at best.
