Sony Makes “Dumbest Moments In Business” List

67_sony_ad.jpgRemember the White PSP advertisement you see to the left? That horrible decision made by Sony landed them at number 67 on CNN’s “101 Dumbest Moments In Business” list for 2006. While I didn’t think the ad was all that bad at the time, looking back I realize how terrible it really is. We all know what they were trying to convey but how no one said, “Hey, this is racially insensitive,” really astounds me.

Then again, the right hand might have caught this ad before it hit the streets, if it knew what the left hand was doing. This is Sony we’re talking about after all.

By the way, other notables on the list; That fool Stefan Eriksson who botched the Gizmondo and his Enzo and the ages 6 and up, I-Tattoo which instructed kids to, ‘get ready to ‘get inked.’

That ad is definitely one of the most cringe-worthy things I’ve seen in a long time.

I liked the ad. People seem to forget that it was only shown in the Benelux area (I’m Belgian) but that it was taken down after Americans were complaining about it. Which says more about America (where there is absolutely no racism at all /sarcasm) than about Sony. This image was part of a series (http://games.shizzle.be/2006/07/04/heisa-rond-racistische-campagne-witte-psp/). Another image showed the black woman overpowering the white woman, so the controversy was based on a picture that was taken totally taken out of context.
