Revenant Wings going all spritey on us now.
Hey, what gives? When the Final Fantasy XII spinoff was announced for DS, I was thinking about what Final Fantasy III on DS looks like. I assumed it would look something like that. Well, no. It actually looks startlingly similar to the recent Children of Mana, with really beautiful artwork made up of sprites.
I’m shocked at myself, but I’m actually disappointed. Did they outsource this? I guess I need to keep in mind that different games at a particular developer are made by different teams with different goals and ideas. Metroid Prime is not Kirby Air Ride, and Mega Man X Command Mission is not Resident Evil 4. Those examples scare me, actually.
So let’s click on over together and have a look at the 13 little screens they have at DS-X2. It’s OK, I’ll hold your hand. Fine, not if you’re going to look at me like that.

Isn’t that pretty? See, I’m warming up to the look already. I’m starting to get used to all this Square-Enix material showing up on consoles I own. I’ll be taking it for granted once again by the time Dragon Quest IX comes out and Final Fantasy XIV is announced for DS.
This screenshot makes me think of Chrono Trigger. Or was I already thinking about Chrono Trigger? You know what would be nice? Game four in the End of Time series (Chrono Trigger / Radical Dreamers / Chrono Cross) on the DS. I’d much rather see that than Final Fantasy XIV. Ah, dreams.
