Pursuit Force sequel leaping to PSP, PS2

psp_pursuitforce.pngI liked Pursuit Force on the PSP, at least what I played of the demo of it. The car combat mechanics were good and I liked the gimmicky jump-from-car-to-car gameplay. I didn’t get a chance to play through the whole title and see the longer, difficult levels that the critics didn’t particularly like. It stayed at premium pricing for the PSP so I never picked it up.

I suppose it sold well because a sequel has been announced not just for Sony’s burly black handheld but for the PlayStation 2 as well. GripShift jumped to the PS3, and Pursuit Force continues the trend, which I suppose could have been started by Untold Legends, a sequel basically in name since none of the three Untold Legends games are like each other.

But I digress. I find it kind of strange to see Sony making its own titles cross-platform on its own systems. We all know that a console or handheld sells itself based on the exclusive titles on it, or by being the best format for a particular title. Given that the controls on a Dual Shock 2 or Sixaxis are always better than the PSP, why would someone want to buy it on the handheld?
