Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.

PS3 1.5 Firmware Fixes PS2 and PS1 Game Jaggies

Submitted by on January 24, 2007 – 2:45 pm4 Comments

psSlashdot reports via a link to 1Up News that today’s PS3 1.5 firmware upgrade is fixing the visual scaling issues seen on PS2 and PS1 titles on the system. This isn’t mentioned on the official updates page. Other additions to the massive black machine include:

- New security options for AOSS-type WiFi connections (WEP 128, WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA-PSK (AES)).
- A new Key Tone sound option (on/off).
- The ability to pick an image from Photos to use as your user icon. (Are the custom icons visible online?)
- New options for saving your password and signing in automatically are available. I think this means I can tell it to remember my PSN password until I sign out, not requiring me to constantly type it in until then as it used to.
- The option to upgrade the firmware from a PC, game disc, USB mass storage device, or flash media. That’s convenient.

Just in time, too. My PS2 is no longer usable, and I have PS2 games left to play.

I think you’re talkin’ PS2 jaggies exclusively, PS1 jaggies were part of the “experience” :-D

By the way, that upgrade via PC, game disc, USB mass storage device, or flash media is homebrew heaven. I’m officially convinced Sony is counting on Homebrew to roll some more hardware.

Yeah that is odd that they’d put that in there, but they need it for people who aren’t broadband connected to be able to get the latest firmware to play games.

Well I’m happy to report that this patch does indeed fix the problem with 480i games on the PS3. With the lack of new good games, I was beginning to lose my mind that I couldn’t play some of my old faves. Guess I’m glad I have a 360 and a Wii too
