One Diddy Too Many

Possibly the worst jungle imaginable.Flashback to E3 ’97: The Nintendo 64 is shining bright with releases like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker’s Quest promised for the upcoming holiday season. Unfortunately, in true Nintendo fashion, both titles were pushed back out of the Christmas rush. In almost a panic, Nintendo spooges the lackluster Diddy Kong Racing into stores as their highlight title that holiday.

Today, the Nintendo DS has a great collection of ports. Mario Kart DS, while not my personal favorite, is no doubt a shining star in the system’s library. Seeing the immense success of Mario Kart DS will always drum up more, less necessary ports. Diddy Kong Racing is one of those unnecessary games, I can vividly remember how bland and generally irritating Diddy Kong Racing was.

DSFanboy calls it, “a contender for this year’s single most interesting game.” I call it a bad dream coming this February.

More over at DSFanboy, if you can stomach it.

Lackluster?! Lackluster!? Ohhhh, I swear, Aeropause. This is one of those rare times you better be glad you’re not one of those bigger blogs, cause you need flamed out the wazoo for this one!

Diddy Kong Racing was *worlds* better than Mario Kart! The battle modes were better, the courses were more lively, and the simple addition of two more vehicles expands the gameplay tenfold, at -least-. Lackluster…pah!

    Kia,

I never said it was worse than Mario Kart 64, I just said it was lackluster on it’s own.

You’re right, it was better than Mario Kart 64. That isn’t saying all that much.

I loved Diddy Kong Racing. For my money it’s one of the only cart-racing titles that delivers a single-player game that’s actually worth a damn.

Now you say Mario Kart isn’t fantastic too?! You wound me, deeply. Better kart racers there never were than these two. T_T
