Nyko Play Adapter for PS3: Guitar Hero compatible.

nyko_older_logo.pngKotaku has information on a slew of new PS3 accessories coming from Nyko. They are (with US$ pricing):

* Play Adapter $15 – lets you use any PS2 controller with your PS2 games on the PS3, even the Guitar Hero guitar.
* Charging Base $25/$40 – 2/4 controller charging station to plug into the wall.
* Blue Com $60 – wireless bluetooth headset

Getting Guitar Hero working on the PS3 is nothing but good news for people who have held off on getting a PS3 because of the wildly popular franchise, but not having an official Sony device to do it or at least one with the official PlayStation seal should give you at least a bit of pause. One only guesses that greed is the only reason for this, with Sony forcing PS3 owners to buy the $50 Sixaxis controller instead of the $20 Dual Shock 2 (plus adapter).

I’m happy to see someone coming out with a bluetooth wireless headset for the system. Why has it taken this long, and where’s the official Sony-branded no-doubt-Logitech-built headset already? Who wants to use the old wired one even though yes, it works. Or can any bluetooth headset work with the PS3?

And as for the charging station, aside from Kat picking this up earlier, let me just say you can buy these kinds of things on eBay for under ten bucks shipped to your door for a single USB device. Yes you don’t get a cool stand for the controller, so I guess there’s a market for this.

While it’s true that officially-sanctioned 3rd party devices were pretty rare on the PS2, you had some peace of mind that those things would probably not damage your console. If it doesn’t have the seal and something goes wrong, you’re on your own. These all probably don’t have the official PlayStation seal, so buyer beware.

Yes you can use any Bluetooth headset with the PS3, you don’t need a special one or anything…

Bluetooth is Bluetooth, many everyday bluetooth headsets will usually work with the system.

I can’t even assure you that the USB one even works anymore, to be honest.

Logitech announced before the PS3′s release that a number of their existing accessories would work with it. The official headsets (SOCOM one and the separate Sony one) are among them.

So when is the play adapter going to be available?

So… I just noticed that the Play Adaptor is no longer listed as a product (potential or otherwise) on Nyko’s web site. Did they fail? Is it not coming out now??
