New Wii Remote Currently in Development?

Submitted by on January 24, 2007 – 8:50 am4 Comments

milk.jpgI hope you didn’t overpay for that precious Wii remote on Ebay because it just might be obsolete. According to Japanese publication Game Lab, Nintendo is hard at work on a new Wii remote. The new controller will apparently feature at the very least a rechargeable battery and a better grip. Maybe they’ll fix that cheesy speaker too?

This controller really should have shipped with the system. I guess it’s somehow a good thing that they’ll have these new controllers available? It’s Nintendo listening to the consumer, not forcing their fanbase to buy yet another release of the same product.

I don’t have anything nice to say and my momma always told me blah blah blah.

Well, the DS Lite should have been the original DS system, but that didn’t stop Nintendo from putting out the Phat.

I highly doubt that any new remote will “obsolete” the existing one. If the rumor of better grip and rechargable battery holds true, then their will be no obsolete unit. The nice part about this is that unlike the DS upgrade, you won’t have to buy a completely new Wii, just the controller, and 1 at a time if you like. I wonder if the nunchuk is effected. IF not, that might explain why they sell them separately, so that people won’t be forced to buy new nunchuks just to get the upgraded wii-mote.
Kudos to Nintendo if this is the case.

Nintendo replacing the controllers with better ones would be a good explanation for how hard it is to find them. I would like a controller with a better speaker, but what I want more than anything is a controller on the shelf at the store in front of me waiting for me to buy it.

I give Nintendo the whole DS thing. The DS was out well before the Lite was introduced. I had plenty of play time into my DS. The Wii just came out and even though we were told the remotes would feature rechargeable batteries, which they don’t.

This said, how soon? Wii Play with remote is supposed to come out next month. I have a pre-order and I don’t want to be screwed with another battery killermote. They’ll be worthless. Like the original giant Xbox controller to the remade normal sized Xbox controller. Unless they make the battery packs as “sold separately” like 360. Then that will solve almost everything. But then the Nyko recharge station comes out in a few days, so why would I wait for Nintendo to get on this?
