Lost Planet Arrives

First of all we want to thank Capcom and the folks at Fleishman for sending us a copy of Lost Planet recently. I’m heavily addicted to this Sci-Fi-Bug’s-Life-on-acid game and I am currently on the 5th mission knee-deep in the white stuff. We will be giving a full review of the single and multiplayer portion as time passes.
With that said, Aeropause reader Bill Tangeman sends us in his horror story with pre-ordering Lost Planet at his local Wal-Mart recently. Putting a pre-order in with the retail giant is no where near the same as pre-ordering at a Gamestop he remarks. In the end however, Bill did get his game on and now obtains the coveted collectors edition (with photos):
Thanks, Bill!
“Here is my Lost Planet Wal-mart horror story.
I preordered the Lost Planet Collector’s Edition at Wal-mart awhile
back. The preorder came with a plastic xbox storage box and of course
I saved the receipt. When I went to claim my long awaited game
tonight I brought my receipt. It was a nightmare!
The Wal-mart electronics staff claimed I needed to bring the box I
received when I preordered for them be able to credit me my $5.00 down
payment. Look at the receipt I told them. Doesn’t that prove I put
the $5.00 dollars down? Yes they said, but we can’t give you that
credit unless we scan the box. Just subtract $5.00 dollars from the
total I insisted. No can do they said. After many a harsh word and a
call to a manager I was finally allowed my $5.00 credit.

The other thing is they just went and plucked a copy of the game out
of their normal game storage case. There weren’t any set aside for
preorders. I get the feeling that if they’d sold out by the time I
arrived, I would have just had to wait for another shipment. They
didn’t have a list of people who had preordered. They didn’t have
jack.
When I initially preordered the game, the woman at the register didn’t
want to give me my preorder box. It’s just an empty box she said. I
had to inform her that there were special items and codes inside the
box that I wanted. Imagine the scenario where a person doesn’t keep
the preorder box and then finds the staff unrelenting on the $5.00
credit.
Here’s my conclusion. NEVER EVER preorder a game from Wal-mart.
Gamestop knows how to handle preorders. Wal-mart doesn’t have a clue.
There is a happy ending. The Lost Planet Collector’s Edition features
the coolest game box I have ever seen. It’s a really cool antique
metal with awesome art. Comes with a bonus CD, an art book, and a
code for a free map download.”
The moral of the story? Never go home with an empty box thinking you can return to the store filling that box without it. Uh..yeah.
