Hudson to produce original Wii Ware, XBLA stuff.

hudson-river-upstate.pngGameInformer’s Jeff Cork interviewed Hudson’s John Lee and the interview appeared on GI’s website on the 24th. The interview covers Bomberman Act Zero, then focuses on the recent resurgence of popularity for Hudson’s original IPs, primarily due to their success on the Wii’s Virtual Console. When Cork asked Lee if Hudson would be putting out any new games on the Virtual Console, Lee pointed out that the Virtual Console was for old games, and that Cork was effectively asking the wrong question.

So what is the right question? Why, that would be, “Is Hudson going to be making original content that would be available as Wii Ware?” Looks like a yes, just going by context here.

For those without a Wii, here’s a quick explanation of what I’m talking about. If you open the Wii Shop Channel you’ll see two options, Virtual Console and Wii Ware. Virtual Console is where you trade Wii Points for old games. Wii Ware is where you download on-demand original Wii software. So this is where Hudson would put new, original content that would run natively on the Wii hardware. Right now the only thing you can get in Wii Ware is the Opera web browser, which is free.

360 owners might be pleased to hear that Hudson mentions producing content for XBLA as well, though indirectly. Those with a PS3 who like Hudson won’t be quite as pleased, because it looks like you’re getting nothing right now.

Sadly, they pee on the fire that is my soul with these damning words against Rondo of Blood appearing on Wii:

GI: Does Hudson have any plans to release Japan-only games, such as Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, in the U.S. through the Virtual Console?

Lee: It
