Hey, watch where you’re sticking that Wii.
I’d like to thank John H. for pointing out to me in the comments of my recent post that I need to keep an eye on RF signal interference. He was exactly right. I recently swapped the positions of my computer desk and television in order to center the TV in front of the couch, and in the process I moved my Wii from its open air position, swimming in wi-fi, to a spot underneath the TV. The result? It’s sitting under a million pounds of television and the wireless router is on the other side of the TV. Well, derr, of course I don’t have the signal strength to browse the web. And if the browser had a little icon showing me the low signal strength, I would have known that.
Here’s how I found out, and what I did to fix it.
I went ahead and deleted the Internet channel, figuring I’d go with the Windows solution: “take off and nuke the site from orbit”. After deleting the Internet channel, I went to access the Wii Shop Channel and could not. That was when I started thinking about signal strength and interference.
I moved the wii to the side of the television, back in the swimmy wifi-ness, hooked it back up, and tried again. It works a lot better now, thank you very much. That means you, John H., are my new favorite person. I don’t have much to give, just my respect, so I hope that’s enough.
OK, so it’s not a million pounds of TV, but it feels like it when you need to move it six feet all by your lonesome. I love ibuprofen.
