Goodbye Harmonix, hello Neversoft. Guitar Hero III will be made by Neversoft, who were behind Tony Hawk’s Project 8, among other games. It’s as of yet unconfirmed, so we don’t know definitely why the switch is happening. Maybe Neversoft will try to breathe some new life into the series… otherwise it would probably end up like the Karaoke Revolution series – after the first couple of sequels, all we got was basically new songs and maybe a new venue or two.

They have a lot of genres they can milk in the current GH2 generation, so I won’t look for this to have an impact (if true) for some time. At that point the public might be tired of GH2 and won’t care if the franchise is bungled.

honestly, I got tired of Guitar Hero about mid-way through.

To me, it’s still basically just FreQuency from 2001 with a guitar controller and whammy bar.

“Breathe some new life into the series”? It’s only the second iteration (not including Frequency and Amplitude) of the game!! They added better coop and multiplayer modes. As long as they keep releasing interesting content, it will be fine by me.

I think this may be a sign of crap to come. First Red Octane gets bought up, then MTV gets involved, then a new developer is brought in? What is Harmonix working on next?
