sprite-banner.pngOne of the sites I have bookmarked under “Retro Gaming Resources” is GSA, or Game Sprite Archives. It’s a site that holds a big collection of ripped sprites from a large number of games and platforms, a portion of which have been made into animated GIF files. It’s fun to look through all the sprites and other images they have and just have a trip through nostalgia land. I’ve used some of these as templates for Mario Kart DS icons and the like, they work out really well for things like that.

I like that it has the look of the kind of site that would have been abandoned, but it still gets periodic updates with more and more sprites added all the time.

In a similar vein is the Video Game Atlas, which has maps of NES games made entirely of screenshots. I had a ball rolling around on the maps from Castlevania, naturally.
